The Hawk carabiner comes in two versions: SL and AL. SL being the screw lock version and AL being the auto locking version. The Hawk SL weighs 78 grams and features a screwing lock closure which moves vertically on a threaded gate that creates a secure connection when the barrel is closed. The Hawk AL weighs 80 grams and features SterlingÂ’s 3 stage auto locking (self locking) spring loaded barrel that closes over the gate when it is released. The auto locking option does offer some more security when in use, although any carabiner regardless of the type of gate closure must be checked when in the field to assure they are working properly.

An asymmetrical D-shaped carabiner crafted from high strength 7075-T6 aluminum, the Hawk carabiner is both strong and lightweight weighing just 78-80 grams (Screwlock : 78g and Autolock : 80g) and because of itÂ’s D-shape is stronger than other shapes such as oval and pear shaped carabiners.
